‘Rebel in a Business Suit’ - The Book
Hi, I’m Seán Weafer and welcome to the “Rebel in a Business Suit” website, part of an an emerging idea for the new rebel community leading the ascent of new values for leadership in our work and personal selves.
My message is that we are moving through an evolutionary step in human development and that we are moving from the old age energies (competition, dominance, power through intimidation or subjugation, the cult of the ’self’) which have served to develop our physical and mental powers through technology to a new age of energies (connection, co-operation, power through collaboration and the global community) which are about our growth as individuals and communitites.
This effects two generations - today’s leaders who are members of the ‘transitional’ or ‘bridge’ generation of 30-60 years olds and the new ‘millennial’ generation of 18-30 year olds.
For the ‘transitionals’, many of us were born into a world with single-channel, black and white tv - and now we live in a multi-media, multi-channel world where communication is in sound bytes.
When we went to school (perhaps even college) personal computers and laptops were unheard and even undreamed of - now our mobile phones carry more computing power. We are the generation that witnessed the beginning of man’s ascent to the stars.
We have been the witnesses of change the like of which the world has never seen - our parents were never a part of it and our children have inherited it.
We are the “bridge” generation” - we are the ones that have one foot in the old world and one foot in the new - in the industrial age and in the new age of meaning and purpose. We were reared to believe in security and discovered that only through flexibility and taking control of our own destinies could we survive in this new world. We are the product of massive change and we are now assuming our place in leadership throughout the world.
We are the ‘transitional’ generation because some of us are ‘awakening’ to the change in values happening in business and social life at this time. We are refusing to accept the old ways of doing things and are seeking a new set of values of business and living. We are the ‘r-evolutionaries’ - those who will lead the world into a new age.
Coming behind us are the ‘millennials’, the generation who already are living the values that we are discovering now. Hard-wired into them are the values of living life, multi-tasking and all of this enabled by the technology that they have been reared with.
It is a time for R-Evolutionary Business Thinking and the ‘Rebel in a Business Suit’ is creating the change.
Over the next few months I will publish the book “Rebel in a Business Suit - A Handbook for R-Evolutionary Business Thinkers” on the site. As each chapter is drafted I will publish it here. You are free to download, circulate and then comment on the work - posting your comments on the site. I will then re-write, explain and adapt the chapters based on feedback from the site visitors.
This then can become a process of co-creation - writing about our time, our values, visions and future. In April 2008 I will then collate all the finished work and publish it in a hardback form and also make it available as an e-book for free on the net.
