E-Rebel
A Rebel in a Business Suit should have a digital voice.
That is to say that she or he must have a digital voice and a digital presence that projects a part of themselves into the virtual world. We should have a footprint on the Internet.
Generation X might feel that we (slightly more mature people) are not comfortable with the technology of the Net and that Bebo and Facebook have passed us by. However, the Net embodies some core rebel values and Generation X may forget that it is we, the transitional generation, that created and grew the Net. It is a product of our time and of our past, our present and our future.
The Net is about connection, community, collaboration and the expression of oneself as fully as is possible. It is a source of information that can contribute to the life that we, as modern rebels, might choose to lead.
It can connect us with people who are also interested in sharing or creating a life of adventure and purpose. It can help to create synergy through connecting with those of like-mind and like-energy. It can provide a home for the most wayward among us and it is a frontier filled with possibility that works best as a ’sharing economy’.
The net guru Kevin Kelly quotes an essay in one of his posts that says that ‘the Net is run on love, not greed’. Google are a classic example of the rebel way - look at the values that empower its founders and helped them to find a 21st century empire.
The Net is truly the meeting place of the new age and as a rebel in a business suit we should make it our own. Who knows what we might create when we come together in our own space.
