Making a Difference

I was asked the other day as to what exactly being a ‘Rebel in a Business Suit’ actually means. That got me thinking as to what is the core message, what is it about this idea that gets people excited?

I guess that I can’t give you a definitive answer - after all I can’t answer for everyone’s views - and that might be a matter for the community that we’re building on Rebel Island to consider in the longer term and I too, am on the journey. However, for me the answer is that its’ about making a difference. First to oneself, then to the environment and the people around us.

So what is the difference that we are making? I think it is about changing our personal selves in keeping with the change of values and energies of a new age.

Instead of being continually driven by the energies of the Ego (power, control, profit, competition) - which has served us well in reaching the level of success that we have achieved - I think its about our evolving to an even higher level.

Rebels are seeking personal evolution. Its about our getting in touch with our Higher Self or Higher Consciousness - something in our natures that is in tune with the change that is happening (I know I’m using New Age-y speak but bear with me…it fits!) Through this we are the heralds of radical change in our business, personal and societal models. What has been is about to change and we (as rebels in all ages have been) are the catalysts of that change.

We all recognise that, for many of us, the relentless pace of business has become meaningless - there seems to be no greater purpose to it other than playing our role day to day, driving the numbers, building the strategy for even greater profits. The Rebels are looking for something more - something that allows us to actualise more of our true selves in the world. In doing so, we can become a force for great change in the world through using business as a tool for transformation within the world.

So is there a definite answer? As yet, perhaps not. More a sense of the words that matter; transformation, a ‘Higher’ self, collaboration, community, self-actualisation, joy, fun, rebellion, epic adventure, living a legend.

Maybe in the end, being a ‘Rebel in a Business Suit’ might be more about really living than just having a lifestyle.
